Mark Walker Jeffs

Mark Walker Jeffs was born on 2 January 1847, in Eydon, Northamptonshire, England, United Kingdom, his father, Richard Jeffs, was 48 and his mother, Martha Walker, was 41.

He married Mary Jane Carlile on 22 April 1865, in Heber City, Wasatch, Utah, United States. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 4 daughters. He lived in Heber City, Wasatch, Utah, United States in 1924. He died on 22 April 1924, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States, at the age of 77, and was buried in Heber City, Wasatch, Utah, United States.

Mark had a dream that he would someday own a store with clerks (both men and women) and it was for this that he continued to toil and save until he was finally able to open his own store in an old log house. He married Mary Carlile in 1865 and eventually they built a rock store opposite what was called the Duncan House. He enlarged this store again and again. In 1905 he sold out to the Heber Mercantile Store. Mark was connected with the mercantile business until 1906, when he purchased the Wasatch Lumber Company’s yard. He also was owner of a large farm through which the Heber Midway Highway passed at the river bridge. He was owner of Jeffs Hotel at Heber. He built the first gristmill and a creamery nearby.
