John Crook was a prolific journal keeper. Much of Heber’s early history is a result of his journaling. His journal lists the Heber Fort residents by family 1860-1861. He served as Bishopric Counselor to Bishop William Forman in the Heber West Ward. He organized the Heber Dramatic Association and started the red rock sandstone quarry at the mouth of Lake Creek Canyon. It was from this quarry that many of the substantial homes, and buildings in Heber were constructed some of which remain standing today.
