Abram Chase Hatch was born on 3 January 1830, in Lincoln, Addison, Vermont, United States, his father, Hezekiah Hatch, was 31 and his mother, Aldura Sumner, was 26. He married Permelia Jane Lott on 2 December 1852, in Lehi, Utah, Utah, United States. They were the parents of at least 4 sons and 3 daughters. He lived in Nauvoo, Hancock, Illinois, United States in 1839. He registered for military service in 1906. He died on 2 December 1911, in Heber City, Wasatch, Utah, United States, at the age of 81, and was buried in Heber City Cemetery, Heber City, Wasatch, Utah, United States.

He was in Nauvoo at the time of the martyrdom of the Prophet Joseph Smith. He later married and settled in Lehi where he built a grist mill in the mouth of American Fork canyon. In 1864-1867 he served as a missionary in Great Britain. On 2 December 1867 He was ordained and set apart as the Presiding Bishop in Wasatch County. In 1877 Wasatch County was organized as a stake and he was appointed as Stake President. He served in that capacity for about a quarter of a century. He served several times in the Utah Legislature and acted as probate judge of Wasatch County. His home still stands at 81 East Center Street in Heber.
