Lucian Heaton Jacob was born on 22 February 1836, in Warsaw, Hancock, Illinois, United States, his father, Norton Jacob, was 31 and his mother, Emily Heaton, was 25. He married Janet Anderson Clotworthy on 28 February 1860, in Midway, Wasatch, Utah, United States. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 2 daughters. He lived in Salt Lake, Utah, United States in 1850 and Provo, Utah, Utah, United States in 1860. He died on 18 May 1875, in Midway, Wasatch, Utah, United States, at the age of 39, and was buried in Midway City Cemetery, Midway, Wasatch, Utah, United States.

Janet Anderson Clotworthy KWJ8-7XY was born on 4 September 1846, in Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland, United Kingdom, her father, Hugh Clotworthy, was 19 and her mother, Jean Jane Maitland, was 27. She married Lucian Heaton Jacob on 28 February 1860, in Midway, Wasatch, Utah, United States. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 2 daughters. She lived in Heber, Soltau, Hanover, Prussia, Germany in 1870 and Exton, Somerset, England, United Kingdom in 1871. She died on 20 February 1871, in Midway, Wasatch, Utah, United States, at the age of 24, and was buried in Midway City Cemetery, Midway, Wasatch, Utah, United States.

The following was found in the book How Beautiful Upon the Mountains page 662 relating to Lucian Heaton and Janet Clotworthy Jacob.

“Lucianne Heaton Jacob was born February 22nd, 1836 at Warsaw, IL, a son of Norton. And Emily Heaton, Jacob. He was the 3rd of 16 children. He married Janet Clotworthy, who was born September 22nd, 1846, a daughter of Hugh and Jeanne Maitland Clotworthy. Janet died February 20th, 1871 and Lucian was lost in a river accident May 18, 1875.

Lucian was a boy of 12 when he crossed the plains with his family and had much of the care of his mother assigned to him as his father was directing the company. Lucian was given the responsibility also as a guard over the seventh group of 50.

After the family settled in Salt Lake Valley, they endured many hardships. Lucian broke his leg while bringing wood from Red Butte Canyon and was unable to work for some time.

Later, the family moved to Midway where Lucian worked in the fields, He was a capable violinist and played for nearly all the dances.

Lucian and Janet were married when she was only 15. Lucian adored his young bride and did his best to provide the necessities and luxuries of life.

They were the parents of four children and about six weeks after the youngest was born. Janet became ill with cancer. She was taken to Salt Lake for medical treatment but made no progress, so returned home, where 18 months later she died at the age of 24.

Lucian was heartbroken and became despondent. Some time after his wife’s death, he travelled to Elsinore in hopes that his father’s family could help provide for his children, but it was not possible for his stepmother to help. So he returned home and hired various persons in the community to help in his home. One day his youngest son, Lucian fell in a cauldron in which soap was being made. He was severely burned, but his life was spared.

On May 15th, 1875, Lucian went for his cows down by the Provo River and failed to return home. The river was very high at the time and searchers covered it in hopes of finding his body, but to no avail. Finally, around the 1st of June, the body was found near Charleston. By some fishermen.

The Children, Emily, Jane, Hugh Anderson (believed to be Hugh Alexander) , Lucian Heaton and Mary Elizabeth were reared by relatives.”
