The Heber Valley Heritage Foundation Midway Fort Family of the week is that of Konrad Abegglen researched by Jason Moulton. His cabin was located on the north side of the Midway Fort. Please note that on the diagram, his name was spelled Conrad but in family search his name is spelled konrad. The Midway Fort was constructed beginning in 1866. With this in mind , it is likely that Konrad Abegglen, his wife Elizabeth Kummer and children Conrad Jr. And Joseph Franklin also lived in the Midway Fort with their parents.
Konrad Abegglen KWJN-5K4 was born on 8 December 1829, in Gündlischwand, Bern, Switzerland, his father, Christian Abegglen, was 39 and his mother, Margaritha Gertsch, was 30. He married Elizabeth Kummer on 6 February 1857, in Gündlischwand, Bern, Switzerland. They were the parents of 2 sons and 4 daughters. He immigrated from Switzerland in 1862. He registered for military service in 1906. He died on 6 February 1913, in Midway, Wasatch, Utah, United States, at the age of 83, and was buried in Midway City Cemetery, Midway, Wasatch, Utah, United States. Records found in Family Search indicate that Conrad Abebblen (note his first name is spelled with a C) served in the Ira H Jacobs Infantry home guard in Midway, Utah for a period of six months during the Black Hawk Indian War. In 1891 he is listed in the obituary for his brother Gottlieb as serving a mission for the LDS Church in Switzerland. In the Wasatch Wave dated December 12, 1892 is the following. “Midway has a number of orchards and some of the residents had apples to sell this fall. Sometime ago we had the privilege of sampling some pears that were raised in Conrad Abegglen’s orchard. We are safe in saying that we never tasted better pears. “
Elizabeth Kummer KWJN-5K7 was born on 1 March 1834, in Krattigen, Bern, Switzerland, her father, Johannes Kummer, was 35 and her mother, Anna Bigler, was 35. She married Konrad Abegglen on 6 February 1857, in Gündlischwand, Bern, Switzerland. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 4 daughters. She died on 26 April 1898, in Midway, Wasatch, Utah, United States, at the age of 64, and was buried in Midway City Cemetery, Midway, Wasatch, Utah, United States.
Konrad and Elizabeth had six children, two died as infants prior to emigrating to America. Their twin daughters died in Midway in 1865 just three years after arriving in America and just prior to the construction of the Midway Fort. She died in November 1865, in Midway, Wasatch, Utah, United States, at the age of 7, and was buried in Mound City Cemetery, Midway, Wasatch, Utah, United States.

Conrad Abegglen is listed in the United States Bureau of Land Management records as having homesteaded 80 Acres near where River Road and Dutch Canyon intersect. This was granted to him on 26 September 1877 by President Rutherfor B Hayes.
He also is shown as having a Mineral Patent of 27.44 Acres located generally in Summit County near Bonanza Flat. This was jointly owned by Conrad Abegglen and James R Schupbach. It is noted that James R Schupbach LCQC-GF7 also was granted a mineral patent with Ulrich Abegglen.
