The James Jackson Cabin was located on the East of the Midway Fort sandwiched between the John Oneil and George Wardle cabins.

James Jackson is believed to be identical to James Marshall Jackson LZ2S-2GV. James Marshall Jackson was born on 10 April 1836, in Hampton Roads, Virginia, United States, his father, William K. Jackson, was 24 and his mother, Lucinda Brewer, was 20. He married Martha Jane Davis in 1865. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 1 daughter. He lived in Heber City, Wasatch, Utah, United States for about 30 years. He registered for military service in 1905. He died on 25 January 1925, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States, at the age of 88, and was buried in Salt Lake City Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States.

Martha Jane Davis KW81-X62 was born on 26 June 1847, in Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie, Iowa, United States, her father, John Meeks Davis, was 21 and her mother, Elizabeth J Abshire, was 21. She married James Marshall Jackson in 1865. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 1 daughter. She immigrated to Utah, United States in 1852 and lived in Provo, Utah, Utah, United States in 1860 and Park Valley, Box Elder, Utah, United States in 1900. She died on 30 September 1925, in Grouse Creek, Box Elder, Utah, United States, at the age of 78, and was buried in Grouse Creek Cemetery, Grouse Creek, Box Elder, Utah, United States.

Children born to this marriage are listed below. The first three are listed as having been born in Midway, Utah. With the dates of birth provided in family search, it may be assumed that all three along with his wife Martha Jane Davis may have all lived in the Midway Fort Cabin.

Although no burial information is available for James Jackson and Ada Jackson both are listed as having died in Midway, Utah James is shown as having died about 1869. Ada in 1871.

John William Jackson was born on 3 July 1866, in Midway, Wasatch, Utah, United States, his father, James Marshall Jackson, was 30 and his mother, Martha Jane Davis, was 19. He married Anna Donna Laird Johnston on 28 July 1889, in Vernal, Uintah, Utah, United States. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 3 daughters. He lived in Naples, Uintah, Utah, United States in 1910 and Election Precinct 20 Davis, Uintah, Utah, United States in 1920.

He died on 29 April 1923, in Vernal, Uintah, Utah, United States, at the age of 56, and was buried in Vernal Memorial Park, Vernal, Uintah, Utah, United States.

James Jackson was born about 1868, in Midway, Wasatch, Utah, United States, his father, James Marshall Jackson, was 33 and his mother, Martha Jane Davis, was 22. He died about 1869, in his hometown, at the age of 3.

Ada Jackson was born about 1870, in Midway, Wasatch, Utah, United States, her father, James Marshall Jackson, was 35 and her mother, Martha Jane Davis, was 24. She died about 1871, in her hometown, at the age of 3.

Family search record lists that on 19 November 1872 Martha Jane Davis was married to David Harry Toyn in Salt Lake City, Utah. On 4 November 1872, just 15 days prior to her marriage to David Hary Toyn, another daughter, Mary Elizabeth Jackson Toyne was born in Big Cottonwood Canyon, Salt Lake , Utah. She is believed to also be the child of the marriage Martha Jane Davis to James Marshall Jackson.

In the memories for Mary Elizabeth Jackson Toyne is the following ” Mary (Molly) Douglas was born on November 4, 1872 at Big Cottonwood, Salt Lake City, Utah, a daughter of William Jackson and Martha Jane Davis. Martha Jane then married David Harry Toyn and he raised Mary Elizabeth and had her sealed to him in the LDS Temple. Mary had a brother, William Jackson, and then eleven half-brothers and sisters: David Adams, Francis Harris, Charles Crawford, Thomas Spencer, Ann Eliza, Alma Harrym May and Mamie (twins), Cora and Nora (twins), and Joseph Edgar.

She married James Douglas and they were the parents of Richard, Mary, Martha, Ruby, Margaret and Pearl.

She was an active member of the LDS church, serving in the Relief Society. They lived in Ogden, Utah the last fifteen years if her life.”

Based on the above information it is believed that William Jackson referred to above is incorrectly identified and is identical to James Marshall Jackson. William Jackson and Mary Elizabeth Jackson Tonye are brother and sister and the only ones who survived to adulthood from James Marshall Jackson’s first marriage.

The following is a portion of a News article published in Vernal, Uintah 4 May 1923 that is found in the family search file for John William Jackson.

Based on this article, it appears that the children from James Marshall Jackson first marriage either died in childhood, were raised by his Wife’s parents and or were raised by his first wife and her new husband.

Following his first marriage, James Marshall Jackson Married Catherine Almira Oaks in 1878. She was the daughter of Hyrum Oaks one of the original pioneers in Heber Valley.

Catherine Almira Oaks

Catherine Almira Oaks KWVH-TKT was born on 2 October 1849, in Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie, Iowa, United States, her father, Hyrum Oaks, was 25 and her mother, Sarah Ann Wood, was 22. She married Harry LeRoy on 20 March 1878, in American Fork, Utah, Utah, United States. They were the parents of at least 1 son and 1 daughter. She lived in Heber City, Wasatch, Utah, United States for about 20 years and South Galson, Ross-shire, Scotland, United Kingdom in 1927. She died on 16 July 1927, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States, at the age of 77, and was buried in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States.

It is believed that the date listed above for her marriage to Harry LeRoy is not correct in Family Search.

The following is taken from pages 660-661 From the book How Beautiful Upon the Mountains.

“James Jackson was born at Hampton Roads, Norfolk County, Virginia On the 10th of April, 1836. To Mr. Jackson and Lucinda BrewsterJackson. He died in Salt Lake City on January 26th, 1925. He was a Confederate soldier and a veteran of the Black Hawk War. He drew a pension for his services in the Black Hawk War. While working as a miner in Red Pine Canyon, he met Catherine Oaks, who was employed at the boarding house where he lived. They fell in love and were married. (note the discrepancy between the information in How Beautiful Upon The Mountains and that contained in Family Search) to Hiram Oaks and Sarah Ann Wood. The following are the children of James Jackson and Catherine Oakes.

Aminda, married to Zach Evans. Nellie married Rolando Whissler. Esther, married Oscar C. Hardman. Lilah, married Louis Lazarvich. Edward M, married Virginia.”

She married Roy Beacher Penrose Pratt on 5 March 1900, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States. They were the parents of at least 1 son. She died on 10 July 1913, in Salt Lake, Utah, United States, at the age of 41, and was buried in Salt Lake City Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States. (It is noted that Sarah Lavina LeRoy was from the Catherine Oakes first marriage to Harry LeRoy 2ZS7-JRL.

Arminda Jackson was born on 15 January 1880, in Heber City, Wasatch, Utah, United States, her father, James Marshall Jackson, was 43 and her mother, Catherine Almira Oaks, was 30. She married Zacharias Cheney Evans on 25 November 1899, in Heber City, Wasatch, Utah, United States. They were the parents of at least 2 sons and 2 daughters. She lived in Park City, Summit, Utah, United States in 1910. She died before 1927, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States.

Nellie Jackson was born on 12 October 1884, in Heber City, Wasatch, Utah, United States, her father, James Marshall Jackson, was 48 and her mother, Catherine Almira Oaks, was 35. He married Virgina Beatrice Hardenberg on 16 December 1918, in Salt Lake City, Salt Lake, Utah, United States. He lived in Fremont, Colorado, United States in 1950. He died on 25 July 1950, in Canon City, Fremont, Colorado, United States, at the age of 55, and was buried in Mount Carmel Cemetery, Glendale, Queens, New York City, New York, United States.
